Jesus says the commandment to love God with everything you’ve got, and to love your neighbor as yourself is important than any other law or religious ordinance. It would be a relief if it weren’t actually impossible in practice.
Resurrection is all about God. It’s not about us having a blueprint for the future. It’s not a theory, or an explanation. It’s not about us having faith in the immortality of the soul, or that there is a better place when we die. Resurrection in the end is all about God. And the power of God’s love.
This past Sunday we celebrated the great festival of All Saints Day with inducting Pat Brandon as our Honorary Lay Minister Emeritus. Pat came to St. George's with her husband Rev. Ray Brandon, who was called as St. George's Minister from 1970-1992. Pat was given the special gift of a red stole (the colour of the Holy Spirit) made by one of our community members, Ellen Wise.
Pat has been both staff and volunteer at St. George's, giving countless hours of devoted humble service to the congregation and the Comox Valley community and beyond. This was a way for us to honour her service to the church. It was truly an honor, and we look forward to Pat's continuing ministry among us.
