On Wednesday, February 10th at 7:00pm Cumberland United Church will be hosting a joint service marking Ash Wednesday. Ash Wednesday marks the first day of the season of Lent, the 40 day season representing Jesus' 40 days in the desert and the Israelite's 40 years of wandering following the Exodus. Lent is a season of penitence and renewal, where we empty ourselves of those things that hold us back from abundant life, so we might be filled with God's life and be changed by God's hope. The video above is an excellent outline of Ash Wednesday and Lent in general.
Join us as we begin the Lenten season as a community. This contemplative worship service will include the imposition of ashes, time for reflection and prayer. Children of all ages are welcome to attend and participate. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Rev. Ryan Slifka by clicking here.
