Refugee Sponsorship Public Meeting

  • 505 6th Street Courtenay, BC, V9N 1M5 Canada (map)

The Safehaven Refugee Sponsorship Group volunteers are pleased to announce the first publicly held meeting on Thursday March 31 2016 here at St. George’s at 7:00pm. The meeting will be an informal “town hall” style meeting in the church hall. The purpose of the meeting is to introduce the 5 churches involved in Refugee Sponsorship, the structure of the group, introductions of the core group responsible, new government programs, the road ahead, funraising(fundraising) and more, with an emphasis on the compassion of the group and the challenges ahead. The first and foremost step is fundraising! We have found that we need to raise 50% of the funds necessary to sponsor a family before we can start the application, therefore, the step previously announced of having breakout groups and signing up for various duties is premature. Safehaven is responsible for the family for the first year and a family of 4 is approximately 40-50,000.00 for 1 year and a family of 6 is 50-60,000.00. We believe the fundraising will be the smallest challenge we have as phones are ringing off the hook already with questions of how to donate. There will be a question and answer time and we expect the meeting to last 1 hour maximum. We extend a warm welcome to all who wish to attend to gather information on this worthy goal. There is much excitement building over this humanitarian aid and we expect the meeting to be well attended.
